Sanding
All wood floors shall be sanded with heavy powered drum sanders. Floors shall be sanded after all other trades are finished.
For the first cut the floor shall be transverse in both directions, going with the grain of the floor with as low a grit sand paper to cut off the finish. Ranging from twenty to thirty six grit sandpaper. Then the floor will be sanded with higher grit paper to take out the scratch marks from the lower grade 50, 80 grit sand paper. Skipping grits is not permitted. Diagonal cuts are not permitted without specific permission of the contract manager. Sanding machine shall not be moved more than two boards at a time for each transverse on any of the cuts. After the sanding, the last cut is by screening the floor with a rotary buffer and 100 grit screens or a fine grit sandpaper. After sanding the contractor will vacuum and clean the floor area and request an inspection by the contract manager before proceeding to the next step.
Equipment: Contractor is to use two 10hp, 3 phase, 240 amp, 12” drum sanders. They are to be connected by a rider. The edger must have a vacuuming system attached.
Sealing
Apply the first coat of sanding seal using an approved M.F.M.A. sanding sealer. Allow for drying over night. The floor will then be screened with 120 grit screens to take out grain raise. After the floor is completely cleaned, the second coat of sealer may be applied. Allow twenty-four hours to dry. Screen or use a high grit sand paper to abrade finish and further smooth the floor. Clean the floor thoroughly.
Painting
All artwork is to be created in Adobe Illustrator. It is to be in AI. Format. This will allow for creation of a usable format with a graphics cutter. All artwork is to be applied using graphics mask so the artwork can be repainted using the artwork created in a future date. All artwork is to be approved by the contracting supervisor and the school principal or building manager before final application. All bids are based on replacement of an equal amount of artwork that was on the floor previously. No changes may be made without the permission of the contract manager. Paint will be One Shot poster paint or approved equal. Allow at least two days for the paint to dry. Abrade the paint using a high grit sand paper to assure adhesion to the finish.
Finishing
Finish will be an M.F.M.A. approved oil modified product or water based finish. The finish will have solids content of at least 40% or 30% as a water based product (Bona Super Sport One). Apply finish according to the manufacturers directions. Apply a second coat within the recommended refinishing window provided by the manufacturer. Water based finish requires a third coat. The floor may not be used for at least three days. No heavy equipment for thirty days and no tape, ever!
Contractors Qualifications
Only those who have experience in conducting such services and possess a qualified, trained staff shall be considered. Freedom Floors, LLC. is licensed in the state of Virginia. Freedom Floors, LLC. Is licensed in this field with a class B, with classifications of R.F.C. (Recreational flooring contractor). If any repairs are required a classification of C.I.C. (Commercial Improvement) we are also licensed as a residential improvement contractor. Any contractor for this job must have experience with Division One Colleges, five years of sanding experience and prior work on Norfolk State’s gyms and stages.
Contractor must retain and provide copies of insurance coverage for customer as needed.
